New Social Economy Training Manual Available
Date: 04/05/2006
A social enterprise is a trading organisation where any profit generated is invested in the enterprise or donated for the benefit of the whole community.

As a way of helping community organisations in North Belfast become self-sustainable, North Belfast Partnership has developed a guide to establishing and running a social enterprise in North Belfast.

The guide - which is offered via the website, CD-ROM and paper-based resource packs - will save you time, stress and worry by guiding you through each stage of starting and running a business - from finding a workable idea to securing finance, filling out the right forms and informing the relevant authorities, to recruiting staff and keeping appropriate records.

Maurice Roberts of Northern Associates, a social eceonomy enterprise funded by the EU Urban II Programme, was asked what he enjoyed most about being a social entrepeneur:

"My personal background is mainly the private sector and large internatiobal companies so moving into the social sector has been quite a change. I find it very rewarding. It is nice to have something other than profit-motive. It is nice to have that motivation and satisfaction that I am doing something for the betterment of the community, especially for the community that I was brought up in."

To access this resource please visit the training page or alternatively contact Jonathan Kirkpatrick on 128 9075 2990 for a CD-ROM or paper-based pack.
