Neighbourhood Renewal Collaborative Workshop on Worklessness
North Belfast Partnership in conjunction with Belfast Regeneration Office North organised the 2nd in a series of collaborative workshops recently on the theme of Worklessness. The event took place at the Unison Building on York Street on Friday 18th November and used a new innovative discussion eTown Meeting (eTM) format that the University of Ulster’s Parterre Project facilitated throughout the course of the day. This involved participants split into 5 tables using special consoles to vote their preference electronically for various questions related to the discussions of worklessness.
Worklessness is defined as ‘’all those without a job either actively or not actively seeking work.’’
(Worklessness: A city approach/Authors: Dave Simmonds and Paul Bivand (http://www.centreforcities.org/worklessness.html )
A part of the eTM format is an instant report that was created on the day that summarised the discussion and detailed the results of the eTM questionnaire on worklessness. The day was a great success and has helped to form more concrete thinking across the 5 Neighbourhood Renewal Areas on the issue of worklessness and how this thinking can influence the new emerging action plans that are being created across the 5 areas.
The next collaborative workshop is expected to focus on the theme of education and under attainment that exists within the 5 Neighbourhood Renewal Areas of North Belfast.
