Business on Religious GroundsThe North Belfast Partnership's support of an enterprising clergyman has led to the creation of a multi-purpose social enterprise in Upper Ardoyne. Located in the grounds of the Immanuel Church of Ireland parish church on the Ardoyne Road, the Ardoyne Ballysillan Care Unit was officially opened on 23 October. The Right Reverend Trevor Williams, Bishop of Limerick, who was formerly based in the parish, performed the opening. In addition to Urban II funding, the ABC coffee - snack and thrift - recyling shop was supported by the Tear Fund and Church of Ireland Priorities. The project, which also provides catering, retail and office training, was the brainchild of the Reverend George Beattie, who was a leading businessman in Belfast before taking holy orders. "I wanted to provide a focal point for the local community and a place where the long-term unemployed and others can train, gain confidence and obtain relevant qualifications - somewhere that will provide a starting-point for their progress and wellbeing," he commented.........
