Community Regeneration Seminars

North Belfast Partnership, in association with West Belfast Partnership and the Greater Shankill Partnership, organised a series of high profile seminars and workshops on key themes that affect the community sector in North and West Belfast.

Three seminars were held in February and March 2006, with over 300 community workers and representatives of statutory agencies attending the events. The highly successful seminars attracted wide interest within the local community sector.

Attendees at Seminar

The seminars were held at Farset International Hostel on the Springfield Road, a social economy enterprise and good exemplar of a community regeneration initiative. The seminars attracted high profile speakers from Government, academia and the community sector. Each seminar had breakout workshops led by local community activists. Follow-up workshops were also held after each seminar, which allowed participants to discuss issues in more depth.

The Seminar series has allowed community representatives and others to hear expert speakers review key themes that are impacting on the sector now.

Murdo Murray, Chief Executive of North Belfast Partnership, states:

"Feedback from those who attended the three seminars has been extremely positive. Many community workers had the opportunity to be informed on strategic issues affecting the community sector and local communities. North Belfast Partnership is delighted to have facilitated such high profile events for the benefit of the sector."

The series of seminars was made possible through funding from Springvale Community Outreach Initiative, which is administered by Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education.
