Board

North Belfast Partnership Board consists of community / voluntary sector representatives, key statutory agencies, local politicians and social partners. Please find the list of the current board membership below.

George Mackey

George Mackey - Chair

George has been appointed as the Independent Chair of the Board of North Belfast Partnership. George has previously held the positions of Director of Belfast Regeneration Office (DSD); Chief Executive of Laganside Corporation, Chief Executive of LEDU and various private sector management positions.

His community/voluntary sector experience includes Chair of Business in the Community (NI); Chair of NICOD (now Cedar Trust); Chair of Threshold and a committee member of Northern Ireland Transplant Association.

Public sector appointments include BBC NI Advisory Committee and Trustee of the Independent Living Funds. George has particular interest in health issues; economic, social and physical regeneration.

Sharon Beattie

 Sharon Beattie – Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE)

Sharon, North Belfast Strategy Manager for NIHE, has been on the board of North Belfast Partnership since October 2001 and a member of the Programme Management Executive since August 2002.  She has worked for the Housing Executive since 1982 and has extensive experience in working with local communities in respect of housing services.  Sharon is also a director of Inner North Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership.
 

 Sam Burns

Sam Burns – North Belfast Employment Centre

Sam has been a director of the Partnership since its inception in October 1999. Sam has worked for approximately 15 years in all aspects of Community Development with a range of experience from social problems to economic development. He currently works for North Belfast Employment Centre who are based in North City Business Centre and is also involved with the North Belfast Community Support Group, CPL Committee and Local Strategic Partnership Board.

 

Fred Cobain

Cllr Fred Cobain - Belfast City Council (UUP)

Cllr Fred Cobain has been a member of the Board since October 2005. He was elected as Councillor for the Oldpark area in 1995 and served as Lord Mayor in 1990. He has also been a Member of The Northern Ireland Assembly since 1998 and is Chair of the Assembly's Committee for Social Development. Fred is a committed Trade Unionist and currently serves as a member of the Board of the Police Service for Northern Ireland.

Fred is passionate about social issues and has been involved with numerous community initiatives in North Belfast. He works closely with the Simon Community and the Northern Ireland Council for the Homeless.

Ian Crozier

Cllr Ian Crozier - Belfast City Council (DUP)

Cllr Ian Crozier has been on the Board of the Partnership since September 2001 and the Programme Management Executive since April 2004. He was elected as Councillor for the Castle area in June 2001 and re-elected in May 2005. He is a former Chair of the Development Committee and serves on a number of Council committees and represents the Council on the boards of Laganside Corporation, Investment Belfast and Belfast First Stop Shop.

Ian currently works as the Director of Lower North Belfast Community Council, having previously worked as Special Advisor to the Minister for Social Development.

 

Tierna Cunningham

Cllr Tierna Cunningham - Belfast City Council (Sinn Fein)

Tierna has been a member of the Board since November 2005 and has been working in the Community/Voluntary Sector for 8 years. She is passionate about youth issues, dealing with social exclusion and interface intervention and has been involved in addresing s a number of key issues in the North Belfast community. She is currently a Youth Worker for Tar Isteach and is also involved in the Greater New Lodge Community Festival and New Lodge Youth Providers Forum.

Environmental issues are also high on Tiena's priorities.

Marlene Graham - North Belfast Community Action Unit

Marlene became a member of both the Board and Programme Management Executive in May 2007. Marlene is currently working as Policy and Administration Manager in the North Belfast Community Action Unit. She previously worked for a number of years in the Central Emergency Planning Unit of the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister. Marlene's particular interests include improving the capacity of local North Belfast communities and the local environment.

Manus Maguire

Manus Maguire – Irish Congress of Trade Unions

Manus has been on the Board of the Partnership since January 2002 and a member of the Programme Management Executive since August 2002.  He has been involved in the trade union movement for 25 years and is a member of Belfast and District Trades Council and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union.  Manus is currently employed as a social economy co-ordinator with Cliftonville Community Regeneration Forum and is a member of Cliftonville Community Empowerment Partnership, Social Economy Network/Network Management Committee and a director of the Local Strategic Partnership Board.

Anne McVicker

Anne McVicker

Anne has been a member of the Programme Management Executive since August 2002. She has been employed as Chief Executive Officer with Women's Tec since 2000. She is also chair of CWC (Citywide Women's Consortium), a director of WSN (Women's Support Network), and a Unison representative on the Belfast Local Strategy Board. As a committed feminist, Anne is particularly interested in working in the Women's and community sectors on a range of training and equality issues.

 

Nelson McCausland

Cllr Nelson McCausland - Belfast City Council (DUP)

Nelson has been a member of Belfast City Council since 1989, serving for some years as a representative of the Castle area and since 2001 for the Oldpark area. He was High Sherrif of Belfast in 1997. In 2003 he was also elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly as a member for North Belfast. Nelson was formerly director of the Ulster-Scots Heritage Council and his special interests are culture, community development and education. He has been a member of the Belfast Education and Library Board since 1993.

 

Sam McCready

Sam McCready – Department for Employment and Learning (DEL)

Sam became a member of the Partnership Board in December 2004.  He is District Manager with the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) and is responsible for overseeing training – Labour Markey Intermediary and Job Centre activity in the north of the city.  Sam is assisting the Partnership with its employability work and has extensive experience of labour market issues and regional and European levels.

 

 

Gerry McGuinness – Belfast Education and Library Board

Gerry joined the Board of the Partnership in June 2004 and is the Assistant Senior Education Officer of the Belfast Education and Library Board's Youth Service. His experience is largely in the statutory sector with meaningful contacts developed with the community and voluntary sector. Gerry's main focus is on improving opportunities for children and young people and widening horizons through youth exchanges and training youth workers.
