St Patrick's Church

Built between 1874-7 and modelled on SS. Augustine & John on Thomas Street in Dublin, St Patrick's has a fine spire floating over a large recessed arch enclosing the portal, arcades and a fine rose window. The arch expresses the inner volume of the church behind the spire. One of Sir John Lavery's paintings is housed in the side chapel. It features St Patrick, the Madonna and St. Bridget. Lavery's wife Hazel, the famous society hostess and friend of Michael Collins is the inspiration for the face of the Madonna. Adjacent to the church is St. Patrick's school, a fine example of Gothic Revival architecture dating from 1828. St. Patrick's is part of the "Cultural Corridor" Tour. Sinclair Seamen's Presbyterian Church

Although dating from 1857, the interior of this Venetian style harbour side church was refurbished on a maritime theme and is continued as a gleaming tribute to the city's seafaring traditions by a friendly congregation. Don't miss the stained glass, the bell from HMS Hood and the lifeboat shape collection boxes. Next door is the Belfast Harbour Commissioners Office, an imposing Victorian building.

Open to the public every Wednesday afternoon.
