Launch of the Employability Access Project
|
Date: 10/01/2006
|
The launch of the Employability Access Project will be held at Belfast Castle on Tuesday 10th January 2006 from 10.45 am to 1.00 pm.
Speakers will include joint chairs of the North Belfast Partnership Board and representatives from North & West Belfast Health & Social Services Trust (NWBHSST) and the Mater Hospital with further speakers to be confirmed.
The Employability Access Project is a unique partnership between North & West Belfast Health & Social Services Trust, the Mater Hospital and a number of agencies interested in improving employment opportunities for North Belfast residents.
The Employability Access Project (EAP) Development Partnership (DP), funded by the European Social Fund under the Northern Ireland EQUAL Community Initiative Programme and the Department for Employment and Learning, is focussed on improving access to job opportunities for those people at most disadvantage when seeking employment, specifically within the Health Sector in North Belfast.
The EAP DP is evaluating recruitment and selection practices in the Mater Hospital and NWHSST to build better linkages between the supply of and demand for quality jobs. The project is also looking at how recruitment and selection practices can be developed to meet the dual needs of health sector employers and people trying to overcome barriers to employment.
EAP activity has concentrated on looking at ways to develop a pilot programme which will encourage and match unemployed and economically inactive residents of North Belfast with hospital jobs at the Mater and NWBHSST whilst providing a platform to test new ways of recruiting (i.e new application forms, less bureaucratic systems, getting potential employees input) and highlight the job progression potential within entry level posts.
The first pilot programme of personal development, pre employment skills and job shadowing will be delivered in mid January for 8 weeks. Upon successful completion of the programme the participants will be invited to interview for an entry- level post (laundry, domestic, catering or care assistant) at the Mater Hospital or NWHSST. It is intended to deliver 10 programmes for 10 people (total 100) with the first programme starting in January 2006 and the final programme ending in June 2007.
